4 Essentials for Your Overland Trip

An overland trip can be one of the most challenging but fulfilling experiences of your life. Before you take off into the desert, however, you should make sure that you’re packing appropriately. Here are just a few things that you won’t want to leave behind during your overland trip!

1. Portable Stove

Some people don’t like to carry cooking equipment with them during an outdoor adventure; they see it as cheating. However, you should think about stashing a portable stove in your trunk even if you don’t intend on using it. It will be a cheap and easy way of boiling water if your other filtering systems don’t work out.

2. Satellite Communication

One of the joys of taking an overland trip is being able to disconnect from calls, texts, emails and push notifications, but don’t take this too literally. Have a satellite phone or satellite messenger on hand so that you can still get in contact with someone in case of an emergency. Some devices even come with an “SOS” button for truly dire situations.

3. Tent or Tarp

This is a must-have piece of overland vehicle equipment. Unless you plan on sleeping in the backseat, you’ll need some way to turn your jeep into an overnight camping shelter, and a rooftop tent is perfect for the job. You can attach it to your vehicle when you need it and whip it right off when you’re done.

4. First Aid Kit

Last but certainly not least, don’t travel any backcountry without having a first aid kit on standby. You’ll want to be fully prepared if you get cut, stung, scratched or burned, especially if you’re a long way from a hospital. An infected wound will definitely put a damper on your trip!

These are just a few things that you’ll want for your overland trip. It’s better to be safe than sorry, so don’t cut corners when it comes to being prepared for anything. You don’t want to realize that you’ve left something important behind when you’re thousands of miles from civilization!
